Kilkenny Parade

The Parade and the Mayor’s walk are two of the principal components in the complex assembly of urban spaces that form the prestinct of the castle. Together with the parkland, parterre, canal walk, design centre and Butler house they constitute a unique and intergated urban setting. The project proposes the restoration of the Parade as a locus of interest along an extended itinerary of public spaces. The strategy involves re-aligning part of the raised pavement which forms the southern edge of the Parade parallel to the tree lined walk, providing a continuous generous paved area, extending the public realm. At the opposite end a series of bollards define a carriageway for buses and cars. The existing elements, limestone steps, kerbs and bollards are retained and complimented with a palette of local surface materials.
