Irish World Performing Arts Village, Limerick

The concept for the building is that of a theatre in the round. The offices, dance studios, studios, practice and tutorial rooms are all arranged around the two main performance theatres and a generous public atrium space that resonates with the life and sounds of this community of musicians, performers and scholars. The strong visual and at times accoustic links forge a shared identity, a space with performance at its heart. The atrium becomes a theatre in and of itself, a place of impromptu performance from where the daily life of this creative village can unfold. All of the cellular accommodation located around the perimeter looks out to the adjacent river landscape establishing another potential set of relations. The roof functions as a deep plate that gathers all the parts together, punctured to allow light into the interior.
