U2 Tower Dublin

The tower emerges from a long, thin, wedge or plinth that book ends the public quay. The monolithic form is cut by deep trapezoidal voids that penetrate to the core forming external terraces to the offices and apartments on the upper levels. The public elements of the programme, the bar and overhead restaurant occupy the plinth facing east, out to the junction between the river and the inner dock of the grand canal. A long, narrow central service spine rises through the block to service the various requirements of the brief. The entire form is clad in stone.
