Torca Hill, Killiney, Co.Dublin

New House : 345m2

Located on the brow of Dalkey Hill, south Dublin, from this elevated position the house enjoys a spectacular panoramic view over Killiney Bay. The house is long and low, half buried into the hill, its geometry defined by the existing high granite walls that surround the site. External space is regularised by the simple cranked shape and a sheltered garden is formed against the hillside. The splayed plan of the living area captures the expanse of the view and the linear nature of the space addresses the distant horizon line.

While a series of ancillary rooms occupy the lower floor, the main family rooms open onto the garden at the upper level through large glazed sliding screens. The main living area and adjacent covered terrace occupy the east side of the site, a horizontal and transparent space that also enjoys a view of the sea. The house is constructed in a polished, white, in-situ concrete mixed with an aggregate of crushed granite, excavated from the site. The roof has a sedum finish.
